I will be participating on a 5k Run/Walk for Arthritis (Knoxville Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis) on December 8 so I started to do some walking. I know it is a tad too late but better late than never!

I had to see how much I can do and what my progress is everyday so I scoured the Apple App Store on my iPhone for an app that would accomplish what I needed. I downloaded Nike + Running and RunKeeper.

Nike + Running is a great simple tool…if you are running that is. It tracks your time, calories, mileage and plays your playlist and even offers to post on your behalf on your Facebook account so you can get cheered on by your followers (if you have any).

So, needless to say, I deleted it just for the simple fact that I am WALKING not running. It doesn’t help you out any if you are just walking.

On the other hand, RunKeeper is a keeper. It has all the above-mentioned stuff that Nike offers plus some. You can program it to work with what you need to do – walking, running, etc. It also have some presets on how to do your workout from beginning to advance athletes. You can even have a workout with rest if you are as close to senior citizen age as I am (not really, I am still young but feel old sometimes). If you are preparing for a marathon like I am, it gives you a pre-set work out schedule and timeline to achieve your goal.

The only bad thing was that I found out I am 1 month behind on my timeline to be ready for my 5k Run/Walk marathon. *sigh*
